I create, design and SELL SELL SELL. I'd like to have the freedom of not working another job full time to make my business grow/mature.
What inspired you to get into the business you are in today?
I found out that a couple of girls formed a band without knowing how to play instruments... 'Luscious Jackson'... with fondness of Industrial music we came up with the moniker J.A.F.I.B. and a few sticker designs, we were on our way. But we never learned to play the instruments... a friend, who had stumbled across a fake bakery in Boston selling t-shirts with cupcakes on them, called me to say it would be insane if I didn't do the same with my JAFIB designs... The first 50 sold out...
How do you define success for yourself and for your business?
Success for me comes with people knowing your skills, where they see your work, or wear your work out in public... and tell others about it. I love to design, I love what I do, but I have to have another design job to pay for the expenses for my JAFIB Wear part time business. The more who see the work, the more I can sell, the more successful JAFIB can be. I'd love to help others in the position I'm in currently so they can love what they do too.
How would you use the FedEx SMB Grant money to make a significant impact on your business and/or on others?
I can extend the product range, possibly look for a proper retail spot to get retail traffic and get the word out. People who know about the t-shirts, stickers, and hoodies, LOVE THEM... Former customers tell others, but I think a proper website maybe needed to extend future sales. I'd love to hire proper retail people to sell product so I can work on more designs.
