Sohn Social Media Solutions offers trainings to small businesses and the public on the most effective ways to use social media.
What inspired you to get into the business you are in today?
After I graduated from college, I worked at newspapers for more than a decade. In 2008, I began a freelancing business on the side and decided to go full-time freelance in 2011. While freelancing, covering the social media industry, I have discovered the power of social media in helping me to find new clients, them finding me, and helping to promote my business. Now, I am on a mission to educate small business owners on how they can best use social media to grow their businesses!
How do you define success for yourself and for your business?
My mission is to educate as many small business owners and employees as possible about the power of social media and teach them best practices to draw the most engagement and hopefully increase sales. I would define success by scale -- how many small business owners I can educate on social media, whether it's in person or online. I taught my first class last night (Jan. 16), "Twitter for Small Business Success" at the Hawley Silk Mill in northeast Pennsylvania.
How would you use the FedEx SMB Grant money to make a significant impact on your business and/or on others?
I would use the grant money to market my business both locally and nationally both in print and online. I would also use the money to offer courses at a discounted rate to small business owners because I know they don't often have big budgets to dedicate to social media. This way some small business owners will have access to a skill to help grow their business they might not acquire otherwise.
