We increase life skills and familiarity with healthy foods while developing a platform of exploration thru hands-on activity-filled classes.
”I’m allergic to salad!” We hear this line often, or more blunt “I don’t like vegetables." Place something green on the table and “allergies” and groans rise from youth. In 2010 a student of ours not only declared an allergy to salad, but threw herself on the ground to prove her dislike of veggies- On that day our name was born. Allergic to Salad began with this single school-based cooking class. Since then, we continue to grow with demand for our healthy, hands-on classes with more to give!
This grant would help us grow exponentially to reach more NYC public school students with our healthy STEM-based cooking classes. It would go fully towards hiring a Program Officer (PO) to maintain and expand our growing school-base and educator team. Currently, with over 100 classes happening in NYC schools each week, we reach 2,500 students. This number will likely double in the 2017-18 school year. We hope to expand programming nation-wide and a PO would be instrumental in this growth.
