Black Pearl Bakery is a home-based dog bakery in Northwest Indiana. We offer healthy treats for your pup from cookies to biscuits to cakes.
What inspired you to get into the business you are in today?
After adopting two dogs in 2011, we started making their treats. People at work started asking about them & wanted some for their dogs as well. Word continued to spread until Black Pearl became what it is today. The satisfaction of our customers, two and four-legged, keeps us developing & baking more treats. When we hear that our treats are the only ones our customers feed their dogs, we know we have an excellent product!
How do you define success for yourself and for your business?
Success to us is not necessarily determined by money, but rather our customers' satisfaction. It means a lot to us to have a customer say that their dog will not eat any other treat. We know we have been successful when we deliver treats to a customer and get covered in doggie kisses. Our customers' kind words say it all!
How would you use the FedEx SMB Grant money to make a significant impact on your business and/or on others?
Last Spring we were able to take our business "to the street" with the purchase of a mobile treat truck...dogs need food trucks, too! Since then our business has boomed. If we were to win the FedEx Small Business Grant, we could take our business to the next level--a brick and mortar bakery. We would love to open a store so that our customers could get their treats whenever they wanted. And of course, our four-legged customers would always be welcome to come and shop!
